This Saturday night in Orlando, Florida, reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos defends his belt for the first time against number two ranked contender Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. The pair have history with both each other and in Orlando, Florida having fought each other here before back in August 2013. Dos Anjos prevailed over Cerrone in a unanimous decision. Since then Cerrone has built up a very impressive win streak having won eight fights in a row with victories coming over former champion Benson Henderson, previously undefeated Myles Jury and former Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez. His seemingly careless approach to taking fights has made him one of the most active fighters on the UFC roster. He was due to fight undefeated lightweight prospect Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 187 in May this year but that fight was scrapped when Khabib was forced out with a injury. Cerrone fought John Makdessi that night and finished him with a second round TKO after breaking Makdessi's jaw with a head kick.
Dos Anjos is defending his belt for the first time since defeating Anthony 'Showtime' Pettis at UFC 185 back in March of this year. In what was a shock victory, Dos Anjos dominated Pettis over five rounds to take the lightweight championship to Brazil. In the post fight press conference, Dos Anjos revealed that he had injured his knee prior to the Pettis fight, which made his victory even more astounding. It also meant that he would have an extended lay-off which is why he is only defending his belt now, nearly nine months after he won it at UFC 185.
In the Co-Main event, former UFC Heavyweight Champion and current number two ranked Junior "Cigano" Dos Santos takes on number nine ranked Alistair "The Reem" Overeem.
